Price Paid: $369.00 at killington, vt

Summary:
Killington is a lot of fun. There's some guys up there who know the mountain really well and surprisingly, there's some pretty decent tree skiing in the north-east! One thing Killington has is a really fun park and pipe on Bear Peak. "Cruise Control" is a really great trail. "Flying Monkey" is a must ride if you like to scare yourself on an extremely steep trail with lots of trees. It is about 3 hours from Boston and the "distance from Boston/quality of mountain" ratio is just right. Also, the fast gondola rides are nice.

Summary:
Before this past weekend, I'd last snowboarded Killington 8 years ago. I remember why I hadn't visited more recently: this mountain truly bites. It's ice here, ice there, ice everywhere - it's ice all the time. When they do "groom" the trails, one is simply riding on ice cubes. Not too much fun. The trails are marked horridly. You can easily find yourself mired on cat tracks for 45 minutes trying to find a base lodge. Seems that Killington management doesn't really give a rat's a-- about providing quality snowriding experience. I thought I'd give Killington another chance this weekend after reading positive reviews is this year's Ski Magazine reviews. I now realize that the editors of that venerable mag need a good kick in that arse. Killington is without doubt the worst mountain resort in VT. Go spend your hard earned dollars at Stratton or Okemo.

Summary:
Killington bashing is a favorite sport for many, and while the resort has some warts, up to mid Vermont there's nothing better.
It's patently absurd that a posers paradise like Stratton which is overrun with New York lawyers and dentists who really believe the double diamond status of anything there, or Okemo with the vertical challenge of a pool table could score anything close to Killington on this forum.
If you can't find what you're looking for at Killington then you're not trying. OK, there's no back bowls like Vail, or stupid steeps like Pally at A-Basin, and for sure it's no Mad River Glen but some of the stuff will make you pay attention, and they try reaonsably hard to make the conditions favorable.
Be careful of what they've done to Bear mountain which was always my favorite with Outer Limits and Devils Fiddle etc. - Terrain parks now take up half the area! WHY? There's so few people in them, where there used to be skiers and boarders all over. What's left for skiable terrain on Bear is now very crowded because of the terrain parks - time to rethink this Killington.
They've tried to pacify others with glade runs at Bear, but since there has to be natural snow, or it should be decent, they're not open very often which means there's little left for us who aren't interested in rails, pipes or whatever else.
Overall the place is fine, and while it can get crowded (name a place that doesn't), generally it's pretty reasonable, even on weekends, although this is definately the worst time to be there.
Learn the mountain a bit to avoid the potential for endless traversing and if one area is marginal, there's probably something better a lift ride away.
Price wise it's reasonable, with a number of other more southern areas charging more, but that's part of their poser - snob status - don't worry, we don't want to be with you either - new skis, new outfit, Muffy in $25k/year private pre-school and can't ski worth a *&^$*) - go to Stratton, you'll fit right in.

Summary:
I usually go to the Midwest/West where I've found the conditions to be very good and the people to be nice/helpful. I found neither to be the case at Killington. Unlike the resorts in the Midwest/West where most things (i.e. restaurants, ski shops, etc.) are within walking distance, at Killington you really need a car to get around (unless you are a fan of shuttle service which consists primarily of a bunch of old school buses). The week prior to our stay was unseasonably warm which resulted in very sloppy conditions that when combined with the large weekend crowds made for a very miserable experience. Finally, I found the people (both skiers/snowboarders and ski shop attendants) to be rude and condescending. I will never go back.

Summary:
Over crowded on the first Saturday of the season with limited runs open. Most folks were friendly, but oddly the "older" skiers had the worst attitudes. I guess these guys in their 40's purchased those platinum lift tickets, so they don't have to share the mountain with anyone.
