| | Reviewed by: Ricky Aminaka, Advanced, from Tokyo Summary: It is a bit long trip from Tokyo, but it is worth visiting. Everyone can enjoy this resort, I mean Everyone. Lower section is loaded with isolated beginner slopes so you can learn effectively without interrupted by intermediate/expert cutting off the line. Middle section has long steeps - no wonder Hermann lost his balance! Upper section is nothing but bumps, glades and open bowl. Try Usagi-Daira or Kurobishi runs if you're a mogle freak. They're not very steep (about 26-35degrees) but mogles are huge. It's hard as skiing down at Drunken Frenchman of Winter Park. Very top of the mountain has the deepest untracked powder available. My Mod-X was very happy skiing there. But be really careful if you're going to backcountry: it is very avalanche prone out of bounds.
Worrying about snow isn't even a issue in Jan-Mar; it is one of the snowiest region in Japan, with base depth of 3m (360in) or more. Olympic year was a big exception. Snow is wet & heavy though, so bring a right wax.
I didn't really checked the town, I mean who needs one after all day skiing? My friends say they have some great bars, especially after the Olympics.
