| | Reviewed by: Joachim Pfeiffer, DoubleDiamond, from Chresapeake, VA Summary: Not much to add to the reviews there. As far as wind and gondola are concerned: At least the newest and most exposed gondola runs with two cables which makes it much more stable in high winds. Go there and check out the landscape! Amazing. Another issue with crowds: tour-operators providing package-deals with snow-guarantee(!) transport all their customers to Hintertux if snow coverage in the rest of the Zillertal is poor. There's an approach to beat the crowds during high season i have heard of, but did not try myself: Be at the base as early as possible and go up with the first enthusiast. Ski hard, and leave around noon, before the crowd really kicks in, and be back home before the Zillertal ski-rush-hour even begins.

| | Reviewed by: Alan, Intermediate, from Munich, Germany Summary: Went there in February 2001 - unusual to have to go to a glacier in February, but that's how bad the Austrian season has been this year. But well worth it - after a big blizzard on Saturday, the powder on Sunday was fantastic.
Be careful with the altitude - the new, fast, modern gondola systems takes you above 3000 metres very quickly, so take it steady and don't over-exert on the first couple of runs.

| | Reviewed by: Daryle Gaston, Intermediate, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada Summary: I went early in the season with during the first big storm. 90 km/hr winds. Definitly the steepest and because of the winds the SCARIEST gondola rides of my life !!! Visibility was 25 ft at the top. If you stopped for a rest on the way, you had to lay down to avoid being blown over. This doesn't necessarily say much for the quality of this great place, but it made for the most memorable ski trip I've ever been on. The terrain I saw was most all rugged alpen mountain. 10000 ft at the peak, not a lot of trees up there! It is a big mountain with some great skiing, all centred around a nice quiet villiage below. Skiing for all skill levels. Very cool.

| | Reviewed by: Brian Johansson, DoubleDiamond, from Fort Bragg, NC, USA Summary: A great choice that is little known outside of Austria. Some limited partying in the village, there are plenty of little pubs that can get wild at times. The skiing is the draw here. A relatively steep glacier that offers good skiing year round. I skied powder almost every time I went there in the winter. The restaurant on the mountain is awesome - good food at unbelieveably low prices. One of my all-time favorites.
