| | Reviewed by: John Masternak, Intermediate, from Springport, MI, U.S. Summary: I'm somewhat bias towards Austrian slopes since it is where I really began skiing. You will have a hard time finding a better atmosphere, food and beverage than that in Austria. Austria is cheaper than Switzerland and France but the skiing is just as good. Solden offers a wide range of difficulty for any level of skier. I'm intermediate, but several of my friends that are advanced really enjoyed the skiing. I would recommend staying on the back side of the mountain towards the glaciers (two). The snow is better, there are fewer people (and snow boarders) and the view is spectacular. The food in the lodge is excellent and not too exspensive (did I mention the great beer?). Local gausthaus' (bed and breakfast) are family owned and operated which adds to the experience. The nightlife is ample in Solden so there is no worry of finding a taxi or driving to your hotel. I would definitely recommend Solden and Austria as a stop on any European skiing trip.
