| | Reviewed by: Tom Witcher, DoubleDiamond, from UK Summary: Alpe d'Huez is home to a couple of amazing blacks - Tunnel and Sarenne. I havent ever enjoyed skiing on piste as much as when skiing those two. Sarenne is the longest black in Europe and the Tunnel must be one of the steepest. Off piste is OK but not as good as other places I have been (eg La Plagne, 3 Valleys) I have been for 4 weeks and the snow has been excellent each time. Nightlife average. I would definitely go again, especially in Spring when all the lower resorts are melting. Last time I went I got a last minute deal to a fully catered chalet for £189. This was probably unusually cheap, but fantastic value. Keep looking.... NB from the top of Pic Blanc it is possible to see 1/5 of the land mass of France on a clear day. Even if you dont fancy skiing the blacks down, take the cable car up to this very high peak and soak up the beauty of the scenery - it'll change your life swear to God.

| | Reviewed by: Brian Simpson, DoubleDiamond, from London, UK Summary: For challenging black and red runs this is one of the best resorts I've been to ! Snow cover/conditions were the only disappointment. We went in mid March and many of the lower altitude runs were closed or had thin cover. Higher up, the skiing was amazing, especially the Sarenne and the Chateau Noir and the view from the top of the Pic Blanc Cable car was beautiful. Note that many of the runs here are at the top end of the difficulty range - a lot of the reds should really be blacks ! Don't miss the Ice Grotto at the top of the DMC gondola either - a different and unusual idea. The Apres ski was a little disappointing, apparently, Thursday night is party night in Alpe d'Huez and things were pretty dead on Friday. Best of the bunch for a lively night is Smithy's, the Igloo discotheque is OK but the drinks are pretty expensive so be warned !
