As a gateway to the Portes du Soleil resort network, Chatel is excellent. It is possible to ski across to Avoriaz and back quite easily in a day, crossing the French/Swiss border and taking in some amazing views and long crusing red and blue runs. Spend a couple of days in Chatel, then do a bit of exploring !
