Summary:
I viseted Flumserberg on 1 January 2005, on my way back to The Netherlands after a week skiing in Lenzerheide. I conveniently parked my car in Unterterzen (429 m) and took the old gondola to Tannenboden (1400 m). The old gondola lift will be replaced by a modern cabin lift in the summer of 2005. Tannenboden is the major village on the mountain and is in a central position. I did not really like Tanneboden. You will hardly find anything of the charm that characterisez most Swiss mountain resort. The other villages are Tannenheim (1220 m), Mittenwald (1275 m)and Bergheim (936 m).
For experienced skiers, Flumserberg is nice for one or two days. The resort is too small to spend a whole week. The majority of the runs is relatively easy (a considerable number of reds are actually blue, e.g. the slopes on the Prodkamm), but a few are challenging. Especially the black runs on the Leist (2222 m). As allmost all slopes face north, it can be very cold even on sunny days.
I would say that Flumserberg is mainly suitable for beginners/intermediates and for families. Please note the proximity of major cities like Zürich. I bet that the resort is overcrowded in the weekends.

Summary:
Flumserberg still is one of the best kept secrets of the Swiss Alps. It is only one hour drive from Zürich. This place is just perfect for families, even though it has become a little pricey over the last years. But the service and friendliness easily outweigh this fact.
Besides the large number of beginner and intermediate slopes there are several bowls - "Rossdobel" - for advanced skiers. The best advanced slopes can be found at Leist, which can either provide great powder or fantastic mogul slopes, depending on the snow fall.
Expert skiers and boarders must definitely try the back bowls at Leist.

Special advice:
If there is snow in the valley you can start at the top of Leist by taking the back bowls, and have a 2-3 hours deep powder ride to Unterterzen from where you can either take the bus or the gondola to get back to the resort!

Reviewed by: Matthew Bourque, DoubleDiamond, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Summary:
This Mountain doesn't look like much on the map, and it is not viewed as one of the "great" swiss resorts. However, small and polite, certainly make for a pleasant visit. Most of all, the terrain above the tree line is amazing. Being a veteran of Candian Rockies skiing, I can honestly say that the terrain at Flumserberg surpasses most of Canadian Resort skiing above tree line skiing. There are some gnarly lines and some smooth powder bowls, but all of these are accessed with a hike.

In short, expert skiiers who are looking for inbounds, easily accessible, amazing terrain (without the need for a guide) should consider flumserberg. Other members of my group certainly enjoyed themselves on the regular pistes. This is a fabulous all round hill for everyone, and what's best, the more adventursome will certainly please themselves.

Ideally, you should visit this resort only once or twice as part of an extended stay in east switzerland or all of switzerland. I would not recommend spending more than 3 days at flumserberg, as you will be missing out on some amazing resorts close by, like davos and arosa.
