Summary: went to the Hotel Petersbuhel , Excellent hotel with friendly service supervised by the always accessible owner and his partner.Comfortable with good plain food and we managed (the week before Xmas )to ski in and ski out. This was when the rest of Europe had no snow!and only 1 hour from salzburg!
Good intermediate skiing and uncrowded slopes made for a good weeks holiday..i look forward to returning next year

Summary: If you go to Obertauern avoid Rigele Royal, I think there are far better places in Obertauern.
-rooms are tiny and dark
-wellness area shuts at 7 sharp - no matter whether you sit in the sauna
-owners are very unfriendly
Rather try Panorama or Seekarhaus!!!

Summary: I lived this past year in Austria so I had the opportunity to ski at many different resorts (i.e. Bad Gastein, Hoch Koenig, Sport World Amade, Kitzsteinhorn, Zell am See and many more). By far Obertauern was the best. The snow was perfect and there was a wide variety of slopes to choose from. There is also a lot of free riding possibilities. It can get crowded but if you go out of bounds you can make fresh tracks for the first part of the day. After a while people begin to folow you. It is a wonderful resort with lots of great snow. As far as things to do in the town I am not sure. I always went home at night.

Summary: I am realy glad to be first reviewer of Obertauern . I am 43 and I think that I^ve been skiing in last 34 years almost everywhere from Troi valee-France thru Switzerland ,Italy ,Austria to Visoky Tatry in Slovakia .If you want to look at the members of royal famillies while you are skiing then go to Lech , Austria . But if you want to FEEL like a member of a royal family try Hotel Rigele-Royal , Obertauern . There is simply everything right with this family run joint .Food is very good , suna , swimingpool- simply cute . Even the best discoteque in town is in cellar . They have underground garage with easy acces so you can even put your Ferrari inside if you are crazy enough to come with one . But even if you are , and becouse of a huge snowfall you can not go out, hotel owners wiil watch after your car till you can pick it up when a nice weather comes . Real jewel of tipical austrian hospitality . Slopes are realy fabulous with everything for everyone . From beginers to advanced skiers ,moguls , and plenty of prepared pists and fresh powder . Also very good for snowboarders . But , these are things you can more or less find in St. Anton , Davos , Lech ,Zurs , Ischgl , Bormio , Val d^ Isere , Val Thorens , Zermatt..... etc. What you can not find in mentioned resorts is APRE-SKI like in Obertauern . When I first time saw it I couldn^t belive it . Then second time it was a snow-storm and for two days it was only apre-ski posible and it was even beter . Completly unbelieveable . So if you are looking for superbe skiing with secure snow conditions and want to have fun beside - Obertauern is a place you have to try . YOu will have more fun with your clothes ON than otherwise . It is that good . It^s a shame I can only give five stars . With five stars given this place is deeply underrated . Shortly- by far the very best skiing I had in last 34 years.
