Just back from week boarding holiday in Bansko. The Gondola is unable to cope with this years influx of Skiers and expect to queue for 1 hour +. The stewarding of the gondola queue is pretty much non existant and I would not recommend young children are put through the experience of having to stand in it and then fight for a seat in the small cars. Bansko looks as though it is only one quarter built so things will only get worse. A holiday hear is false economy so avoid until the ski slopes/gondola are expanded.

Bansko was my sons's and my first ski holiday, my partner has skied all over. Went end of Feb 05 and conditions were top class for skiing that week.
Ski Instructor George was lovely - he took the childrens classes and my son had a great time with him and was doing reds at the end of the week. And the run back to town was a lovely run to finsih the day off with.
Accommodation was better than expected we booked a family room at strazite and it was lovely, pool was very nice after a day on the slopes and food okay but fussy eaters may not appreciate eastern european food although we enjoyed it, lots of stew dishes and continental type breakfast.
Bansko town was full of character, altough lots of building work was going on in anticipation of the place becoming a larger resort.
Go with an open mind and you will have a lovely time, dont expect top class service but locals very friendly and helpful just a very laid back and down to earth place at a great price.

Bansko is terrific for all skiing and snowboarding levels.
