| | Reviewed by: markhr, Intermediate Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: Spent 5 weeks in Lillehammer visiting Hafjell almost every day. 2 December 2004 to 4 January 2005. Tried skiing, snowboarding, telemark and crosscountry. Good beginner and intermediate skiing/boarding. Limited advanced and off-piste.
strengths - Good, cheap and punctual shuttle bus service that is free if you have a current lift pass. Good beginner and ok intermediate instruction. Guaranteed snow - snowmaking means that even at the beginning of December the bottom half of the resort was open. Good night skiing on a variety of slopes. Grades of slopes and danger areas generally well marked. Very good, cheap rental shop with a wide selection for all abilities and sizes (size 13UK EE/EEE feet were accomodated no problem). Staff are very friendly and helpful. Lift pass is cheap especially if you buy early to avoid seasonal increases. Instructors were friendly and pushed for improvement so I never felt bored or unchallenged. Cafeteria staff don't mind if you bring your own food (the cheapest option).
weaknesses - Artificial snow at the beginning of the season. Variable weather so the base can turn icy. Good intermediates and advanced may find the resort un-challenging. Gets VERY crowded during Scandinavian and UK/Ireland holidays so avoid unless you want to spend as much time queueing as skiing. No snowmaking above the mid station so unless there's good snowfall the top half is closed. Only occasional powder becuase the resort is so far inland. Snow depth at the very top can be problem - if in doubt use a rental so you don't trash your own. Some sizes and types of equipment (very large and small or specialist skis) in the rental shop disappear really quickly during busy periods. Always try to get your equipment as a long term rental or at the end of the day before. If it's busy and you get there after 10:30am you may be out of luck. Shuttle bus gets very crowded during busy times. The food prices are outrageous so copy the locals and bring your own from the supermarkets in Lillehammer or Oyer.

| | Reviewed by: Ragnar, Advanced, from Reykjavik Summary: On okay place, but lacks a little in the off-piste and interesting black slopes department. Good place for the beginner skier.

| | Reviewed by: hallvard tyldum, Advanced, from lillehammer, norway Summary: This is a really ok resort, I spend every weekend here. Too crowdy in easter, but I guess a new lift at the bottom is comming soon. they are also good at grooming the slopes. But they miss some off-pist.
