| | Reviewed by: kendall, Double Diamond, from Westlake Vlg Ca Price Paid: $2700.00 Summary: This operation is very deluxe! The accomadation, Reds Ranch, is a huge house on a 100 acre ranch in Lamoille Nevada, about 1/2 way between Reno and Salt Lake off hwy 80.They fly right out of the front yard into the Ruby range.I went on a three day trip but we were done with our vertical the second day by lunch time! The first day the conditions were extremely variable ,every turn was different. The second day it had snowed 12" overnight and was bluebird. It was mid February and there were still some rocks to be hit.All in all It is very professionally run by "J.R." Joe Royer. All the guides were very knowledgable, the pilot landed on a dime at every drop and pickup.Definetly ask to ski "the cumline".The other reviewer must not have got to ski it,because it was quite intimidating dropping in and was at least 1000 ft of vert with no stopping allowed! They take care of your every need and treat you like a kid with pack lunches, wake up calls,Bandit xxx's,exquisite meals for dinner.I left very fat and happy! It is a spendy couple off days ,but if you want to be well taken care of,ski your own mountain range, fly around in a bad ass helicopter(which for me was half the fun!)I definetly recommend it! | | Reviewed by: Kevin, DoubleDiamond, from San Ramon, CA Summary: Describing your first heliski trip is pretty near impossible. My wife gave me a day at Ruby Mtn. Heliski when I turned 30 and it was the best present I ever received.
The operations are EXPERTLY run and the staff/guides are superb. The lodging is comfortable and the food is great. The snow and weather could not have been better. We reached our guaranteed vertical by 11am!
I don't know much about the rates at other operations so I'll say it was appropriately priced. I do know that I got MUCH more skiing in than I ever thought I would and every turn was made on fresh, untracked, snow.
The only thing I was suprised about was the lack of extremely steep skiing. The runs were not at all flat, but I guess I assumed there would be more chute-skiing. Most of what we skied was wide-open bowl skiing.
I would recommend this operation to anyone interested in a day (or more) in your own private mountain range. I'm definately going back.
