| | Reviewed by: Geoff, DoubleDiamond, from Killington, Vt USA Summary: I caught Mt. Hutt for 8 days in September and early October two years ago. Outstanding spring skiing. I ran into the owner of the Snow and Stream lodge up on the hill and moved over from the Sovereign. The Sovereign was reputed to be the best hotel in town but wasn't anything great. Snow and Stream was a super friendly lodge that mostly caters to Japanese. They made me feel most welcome. In my opinion, Mt. Hutt and Treble Cone have the most to offer for an advanced skier.

| | Reviewed by: James McPhail, Advanced, from Christchurch, New Zealand Summary: Mt Hutt is an excelent field that is only 1.5 hours away from Christchurch (the largest city in the South Island) and only .5 hours away from Methven. The terrain is extensive and varied with much of it unused because of traverse times. Lift queues are small except for the quad chairlift which suffers under pressure from learners. But it is backed up by a triple chair, 3 t-bars 2 platters and several rope tows. The base area is good the only downside being an undersised cafeteria (whic is being redevolped). Overall and excelent field that is in my opinion the best New Zealand has to offer.

| | Reviewed by: David Dicker, DoubleDiamond, from New Zealand Summary: I have skied this resort since 1978. Have also skied Red Mountain (Canada), Kitzbuhel, Porter Heights, Remarkables (New Zealand,)Perisher Valley (Australia). If you want the most reliable snow coverage in New Zealand this is it. Probably has the best overall mix of terrain as well. Lift lines are short or non existent. Weather is often very good, (bright sunshine) unless closed by strong winds. No on snow accomodation, therefore no night life. However local town (Methven) gets quite lively and has a wide range of accomodation. Best suited to people who want a skiing holiday rather then a holiday skiing. Current exchange rate tends to be favourable (A US dollar buys 2 NZ dollars!) Well worth a visit.
