| | Reviewed by: Better Left Unknown, DoubleDiamond, from East Aurora, NY Summary: Ski Tamarack is a very small ski area outside the small town of Colden. Although it is the closest area to Buffalo, there are many things that are working against it and it starts with the main owners son named Pete. Although Tamarack may be great for very young children and unexperienced snow-sliders, its terrain is greatly limited and gets very boring in a very short time frame. In truth, despite bopasting 15 trails, many of these trails are seperated by 2 or 3 random trees and are basically the same run. Tamarack is also a terrible place for alterntive snow-sliders. By alternative i mean snowboarders and new-school skiers (also known as freeskiers, or jibbers). Despiten their sayin that they have a terrain park, they truly do not. All their "Terrain Park" is, is a creek valley with bushes and thorns and one or two small kickers. There is also a fair amount of discrimination that occurs by the staff of Ski Tamarack. For the most part, snowboarders are treated like inferiors, but when it comes to the "Terrain Park", skiers are not allowed to enter under any circumstances. The previous poster hit the nail right n the head about Pete, the owners son. The only thing Ski Tamarack has going for it is a low ticket price, but it is still a steep price for such low-quality skiing.

| | Reviewed by: Dark, Advanced, from NY Summary: This place is a complete joke. The so-called snowboard park has bushes and plants in the middle of it, and you'll find two kickers. If you're caught building a jump, you're thrown out. As for the service, they're okay. But family-owned, come on. The true story behind Tamarack begun with a successful surgeon with a love for skiing. He is a very nice person, but he's pretty old and can't take care of the place anymore. He left it to his son, who is a total jerk to everyone. It's not uncommon to see him throwing the locals around, physically. I've seen him throw teenagers down, on three different occasions. On one occasion, Pete (the owner's son) parked his snowmobile in front of a running snowmaker and lectured a youngin for stopping in front of it. It's obvious you can't see through a running snowmaker's snow, and its also evident Pete's a jerk to all kids. The terrain is a joke too- I can get down the hill in less then a minute flat. The only thing this place has going for them is the fact they're aren't too busy. Wonder why.

| | Reviewed by: Margaret Harkless, Advanced, from Lyman, NH, USA Summary: I grew up in this area of NY & recently went back to visit & ski. It has grown in a good way & the snowmaking capability is excellant. They had excellant coverage when other areas didn't. It is a great place for children to ski & for the first-timer. They have many instructors & they are friendly. The grooming was excellant as well.
