| | Reviewed by: snofun3, Advanced Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: My 11 and 13 year-old kids call Okemo "the big bunny hill", which is what it is.
Thankfully the clientel isn't as self impressed as Stratton, which is hopeless, but anyone going to Okemo when there are so many better areas close by needs some help. (Mt. Snow, Magic, Killington come immediately to mind)
First comes the dumb double chairs which you have to take to get to the main lifts where you have ski right through the bunny area - good thinking guys!
Then you have the single and double diamonds (puleese!) in the "glades" area which is about 50 yards long. We were finished with it and the kids were asking when does the hard part start!
This year they're offering a pass for Okemo, Stratton and Sunapee - Whopeee - like a full winter skiing root canal. Make sure your skis are well waxed for the long flats (and those are the intermediate trails!), the black diamond trails only require a minimum of skating and poling.
There are some things which Okemo is known for which are certainly noteworthy -for a young family, it's a good beginner hill, and it's small enough that it's hard for a kid to get too lost. Also they have a disabled skiers program that you have to salute.
At least there isn't the Stratton mentality where all of the NY dentists and lawyers get dressed up in their finest Obermeyer ski-duds and brand new skis, and prance around, when they can barely get on the lift, much less make it down.
For a young family, or if you're not very good, Okemo will be fine. If you can ski, don't waste your money. If you're a border please go there and leave the good places to the skiers. I'm sure they have all the rails and pipes and whatnot that you'll be happy.

| | Reviewed by: andycont, Advanced, from Newnan, GA Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: Okemo is a GREAT place for beginners (if you have the money). It's not a cheap place, but with over 100 trails, it sure is worth it. The sky lodge cokes were like 3 bucks which was rediculous, however the skiing made up for it. I came to Vermont with some friends from NY, and have only skiied for 3 days in my life total now. A nice lady that trained me was laura she's a friend of the family's. She taught me so much that by the time I got to instruction, I was already an advanced beginner and the instructors were shocked. I was skiing diamonds by my third day! Can't wait to go back! So if ya have money, time, and get out at the right time this is a great place with awesome conditions. Spring skiing is a plus, minus the slushy conditions, but slush is GREAT for learning and you only get slush in March and April... so no matter what, bring money, friends, and expect a good time!

| | Reviewed by: Altitude, Advanced Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: Okemo is probably the best family resort in the EAST and maybe one of the best in the Country. Best grooming on Earth. Lots of snow making coverage and new terrain for those looking for something new. Good runs from the top for all levels.
