Summary:
Roundtop used to be sloptop but now they have people working up there that care about what they ride it has got a lot better. Roundtop is seperated very good for newbies to experienced riders. Alot of people complain about such a short run but around here its not bad at all. I live on the east coast and i havent traveled too much. The park that they have is sick. You have to check out some of the pics. They have 2halfpipes(1super, 1mini) and the 3 park areas with some very sweet stuff. The rail that they had in the competition early this year that moore skates built was sick i believe it was almost 50ft. People talk alot of smack on roundtop but let them cause they are missing out.

Summary:
Deserves more respect than some of the bashing its taken in this forum. They've completely redone their lodge...very nice for a short period of time to eat lunch then get back out to the slopes.

Some folks have remarked with disdain that Ski Roundtop is a hill not a mountain. Some have said they feel cheated by its short and gentle runs. Anyone familiar with South Central Pennsylvania knows the landscape is punctuated by hills, not mountains. Anyone familiar with the Battle of Gettysburg would know the name 'Roundtop' is taken from a North/South clash on a hilltop in that epic Battle. So Ski Roundtop has marketed itself very appropriately. It is a modest size ski resort that is very intelligently laid out with some charming runs.

I found the dining choices in their new lodge adequate, a large selection...from not-bad burgers and not-too-good pizza, to a very satisfying chicken caesar wrap. Prices were expensive, as I thought they would be, but not through the roof. Of coures, I don't really go to Ski lodges for the cuisine, I go there to rest my weary bones before going on the slopes again.

Summary:
Built on one of the best ski mountains in the area roundtop does a good job of making a decent mountain out of it. Their lift coverage is good, and the terrain is ok...you can't expect much out of south central/south east PA. The only gripe I have is that its too darn expensive.

Summary:
Ski Ski sloptop sucks period.. I would never go back there agian it not worth one penny, better resorts that are closer then ski sloptop. You are much better off going to a diffrent ski area then this one it is way too small for the amont of people that ride there, over usage big time. they need to do something to expand the resort.

Reviewed by: Dan , Intermediate, from Harrisburg, PA

Summary:
Opinions on this resort run from hot to cold, obviously. I visit Ski Roundtop many times a season, as well as Liberty. First of all, Liberty is not that much better than Roundtop. Case in point: Roundtop had FULL COVERAGE almost the entire winter, while Liberty had only a few trails open. Many trails never even opened the whole winter at Liberty, while Roundtop was running 100%. Much has to do with Roundtop's snowmaking and northfacing slopes.

For a small mountain, Roundtop's terrain is unbeatable. Trust me, you will find much better terrain at Roundtop than Liberty. Upper Gunbarrel & Upper Ramrod are two of the hardest slopes in Pennsylvania. Nothing that hard at Liberty. Also Roundtop offers a very unique trail for PA...It's called Barrets Trail. It's a narrow black diamond that meanders through the woods. It's short but sweet, and after a fresh snow it's fun to go off the trail a little and ski the trees.

The first poster who said there is no beginner area is flat out wrong. Roundtop is organized very well, all the beginner slopes on one side, intermediates in the middle, and experts on the other side. And they have their own lifts, so you won't find any beginners on the expert slopes. Anyway, there are four very good, wide beginner slopes with a consistent pitch. The intermediates are great as well, and occasionally they build moguls on sections of the intermediates so we can learn how to ski the bumps.

So overall, Roundtop has a great variety of terrain, and excellent snowmaking (Easily the best in Southern Pennsylvania). Thats why they had full coverage this winter and were open weeks longer than Liberty and even Whitetail. There are downsides to Roundtop however. One would be the lifts. The lifts are generally very slow. The fastest lift is the expert one and even that one isn't that fast. Generally Roundtop is very busy on the weekend, but lift-lines are still often very short.

To sum up, Roundtop is no Vail or Whistler, but for Southern PA it's probably the best you're going to find. And If I had to choose Roundtop or Liberty I would choose Roundtop ten times over.
