| | Reviewed by: skicrazy, Advanced Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: I went to Elk MOuntain for the first time a week after a foot of snow fell on the area. I had planned on going to Blue mountain, which I usually go to because it is closer and better than the other PA ski areas. I decided last minute to try Elk and was not disappointed at all. The ski area offers the advanced skier alot more than any other PA ski area with alot more trails to choose from. Trails like Susquehanna and Seneca were a blast. The moguls on Susquehanna were huge when I went, which made the trail more challenging than anything I have skied in PA before. The rural feel of the ski area and the wooded trails really made you feel like your were in Vermont. Elk is definitely a better mountain than Blue or Camelback and offers the intermediate/advanced skier alot more variety.
Ratings are compared to other PA resorts, not rest of country.

| | Reviewed by: J , Advanced Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: The first time I came here, and not the last, this obviously has so far been the best resort for skiing. In the near future I will go to New York and maybe Vermont, but this is like Killington of Pennsylvania. All the other resorts in PA. are cheap, sloppy, and can't even compete with Elk. Please do go to Elk and not to Montage. I don't go to Montage, but I do know that it's always crowded, and Elk Mountain is not usually crowded. The lifts are fast for sure, and the trails such as the susquehana are the best.
Visit Elk Mountain, and if you don't you're making a big mistake.

| | Reviewed by: Jude Smith, DoubleDiamond, from Carlisle Summary: I've always enjoyed Elk Mountain, especially the Slalom, Susquehanna and Tunkhannock trails. There are no Double Dippers, Outer Limits or Cascades, but I do have a good time. It is generally less crowded and I like that it is remote. Maybe the lack of nightlife actually keeps the crowd down and that would explain it is described as a skier's mountain. My rating is based on skiing in PA.

| | Reviewed by: Todd, DoubleDiamond, from Philadelphia suburbs Summary: I have been to mostly all of the big PA ski resorts, and this is the best in PA, in my opinion. The first guy's review mentioned Elk not being as challenging or having as many steep slopes as Blue Mountain or Montage. Simply put, this is not true at all. Montage is the flattest mountain in Northeast PA. Elk by far offers more challenging terrain than does Montage; in fact, Montage is known around the region for being a flat, intermediate's hill. Forget Montage and just go to Elk, it's much better (if you are looking for challenging terrain). In addition, Elk easily has as much good terrain as does Blue Mountain. Blue's only real claim to steep terrain is one slope, which they give a double black rating. Elk Mountain tops all of these resorts!
