Summary:
Some of the best snow in Colorado. They're not kidding when they call it "Champagne pow". Tree skiing paradise. Big, open trails. Talk to the locals to get to the secret spots. Ask about "The Shadows", "Land of the Little People", and "The Final Exit". You won't see these places on the map but if you end up in Steamboat on a day when much of the mountain seems tracked out (somewhat rare), these are the places where the fresh powder stashes are hidden. People complain that Steamboat isn't a very steep mountain, and to a certain extent, it's true. However, certain places like the Christmas Tree Bowl and Gate D are plenty steep. They are short sections though. Speaking of Gate D, if you're up for it, Gate D has a pretty gnarly cliff with a nice steep landing on it. Get there early and land in good soft stuff. Summertime in Steamboat is just as amazing as the winter. No matter when you go, this is a very special place and the people are as wonderful as the steak here. There are natural hot springs at the top of a mountain (Strawberry Park) and a cool little river that runs through town called the Yampa. It's one of the few places in Colorado that hasn't been over-run by corporate indifference...yet. You won't find many fancy cars or Mcmansions. People here smile before they say hello and they want to know your name before they sell you a coffee in the morning. The weather is absolutely incredible. When it snows, it gets just cold enough to snow...then it dumps and dumps and dumps. Never the bitter cold you find in the east. Sunsets often bathe the town in the gold of an alpenglow from the west and sunrises are equally pleasant. Spend enough time here and you'll never leave.

Summary:
One of my favorites: homey, low pretense, friendly people, and great skiing. A lack of supersteep stuff is more than offset by the wonderful tree skiing. Nearby catskiing and backcountry hikes/skis are great. Only shortcoming is that it's difficult to get there.

Summary:
Took the family to Steamboat this Feb for a week. The kids loved the ski school. My wife loved the long green runs, and I loved the blues and blacks. Plenty of snow. No lines, even on president's weekend. Everyone on the mountain is nice. Swiss Haven for fondue, Mexican rest. by the Sheraton was great.

Summary:
First time at Steamboat. Even without an epic powder day, we did get some fresh snow and the conditions all week were just great. There is a lot of variety of terrain, from nice cruisers and fun glades to bump runs and steeper trails. Great place for family, ski school was great. Can't wait to get back.
