Reviewed by: iluvsnow, Skier

Price Paid: $60.00

Summary:
Though I live nearby (Albuquerque) I have to say this ski area is not worth a visit. I've skiied there several times and never had a good experience. They open the upper mountain way too early, full of rocks, dirt, grass, and roots, my skis in need of a repair tune after just a few hours. It's a long hike to the area from the parking lot, theft seems to be an issue (we had a snowboard stolen and we saw someone else right after their skiis were stolen, this in onlt three visits), the food is way overpriced and not very good, not much for snowboarders by way of terrain parks, and an overzealous, unfriendly ski patrol. Not much to recommend, we far prefer Angel Fire, Taos, or even Pajarito. This ski area banks on the amount of business they get by being so close to Santa Fe...so I guess they figure they don't really need customer service.

Customer Service:
Poor. No shuttle to the distant parking lots (or I think I may have seen one once, but that's it) A dismissive, uncaring attitude when my son's snowboard was stolen, ski patrol that LOVES to use their little whistles and tell you to slow down CONSTANTLY. Poor food.

Similar Products Used:
Better resorts I've visited: Taos, Angel Fire, Red River, Ski Apache, Wolfcreek, Durango.

Price Paid: $49.00

Summary:
Varied terrain for a smallish area. By no means a beginner only area. Some expert terrain is certified 'gnarly.' An underrated place to take a lesson. A quirkish and inefficiently run area--pretty much like everything else here in the third world. Amazingly uncrowded 90% of the time, but don't come here Christmas week.

A midwestern skier flying out for a quick long weekend trip could do a lot worse than this place. Its more accessable from Albuquerque than the Colorado front range places are from the Denver airport. One hr. to Santa Fe, then a 45 minute drive to the mountain the next morning. Very high altitude--flatlanders beware!

Customer Service:
Not their strong suit...At least they don't make you go through a security checkpoint like Los Alamos.

Competes pretty well with Durango, CO, I'd say.

Summary:
Pretty fun place to go since I am so close. If I was from out of town skiing in the area I would probably go somewhere else unless you are learning to ski. It is a pretty tame mountain and good to learn on.
