Summary:
I came to Utah in Olympic year. I skied all the Cottonwood resort plus Park City. I also rode a board at Brighton. I found Brighton to be cheap and cheerful. It is not a huge resort but the runs were ones which were fun to repeat.
I preferred it to Solitude.Brighton had no aspirations to be anything other than a day resort whereas as Solitude had lodging. Quite why anyone would want to lodge at the Utah resorts is beyond me. SLC is cheap and I certainly would not come to Utah for apres ski.Perhaps it is for those times when it is snowing heavily and the SLC train and bus are not running
As I said, I am a skier but I also board from time to time when there is powder. I do not use parks, do jumps etc. I just like to float through the new stuff and its easy and fun on a board.
I did not encounter any problems with peoples behaviour. Youngsters in North American ski resorts seem pretty well behaved. I never came across any yobboes or loutish behaviour. I never had to resort to defensive European tactics in lift queues e.g blocking French kids or arguing with Italians trying to push in.Mind you, only in North America do you find a bloke whose job it is to make sure that every seat on a chair is occupied. Nobody bothers with that in Europe - maybe because there are loads of lifts at resorts. I have nothing against Solitude I skied it first on a weekend to avoid crowds at other places and it certainly met that requirement.
Brighton had reasonably-priced food and drink though I usually carry water apples, chocolate in a knapsack. If you want tableclothes and gourmet food go to Switzerland.

Summary:
Stay away if you value your life and your money. Born and raised in Balt-Wash, moved to SLC 4 years ago. Spent the first 2 winters at Brighton and Solitude. They were warm up hills for the extreme terrain and deep powder at Snowbird. Many local boarders in to the "scene" go to Brighton, *most* have no manners and no class. And probably no job. Almost got in to a fist fight the last time I went. Some idiot sitting right in the middle of a blind break on a blue run, could've taken his head clean off with my board (seriously), I yelled to him not to sit in such a dangerous place. He followed me down the hill knuckles draggin to give me flack and try to pick a fight for yelling at him. Told him next time I'd plow him over instead of being courteous. And stick yer head up yer ass and fight for air. Most employees smoke pot on the job, rarely have I seen any management or supervision. And they try to market themselves as a "family" resort. The cheaper lift tickets don't offset the fact that you spend all day on the lift, it takes a very short time to get down. I'll pay the extra $5 or $10 to go to the Bird and I guarantee I log 10-15,000 *more* vertical feet riding in a single day. That's real value, getting more time on the snow for your money. You get what you pay for.

Summary:
When I want a break I go to Brighton and cruise. Great place to just hit the trails and glide for a day or two. When we travel to Alta we always hit Brighton as well. Everyone can ski from the top wich is a plus. Also run by great folks.
