| | Reviewed by: dolemite, Advanced Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: I like to call this place the "Windbasin", its really exposed so if there is a storm coming in go elsewhere unless you like heavy wind blowing snow in you face. Wait for a clear day to go here.
Now for the good stuff, they have several fast gondolas serving almost 3,000 ft. vertical. And let me tell you its all 3,000 ft. used up, the runs are long so if your goal is logging some serious vertical and getting back up to do it again at a rapid pace this is the place.
There is not much of a base area but the lodge etc. that they have is really really nice, plush carpet, marble bathrooms....incredible.
Lift tickets were not too ridiculously over priced, around $48 in the local shops in SLC (This is Winter 03/04)
Snowbasin has a pretty good setup for snowboarding also with quite a few runs following the fall-line nicely.
I wish they would have left some more of the trees in there though, it is so open that you can be subjected to flat-light type of conditions sometimes.
Overall a pretty good resort.

| | Reviewed by: Casey Ducharme, Intermediate, from West Haven, Utah Summary: It's supposed to be "Utah's best-kept secret", but local TV is advertising the living hell outta the place. Saturdays are a bear to have fun on. By about 30 minutes after the lifts start, all the good snow is shredded to crap. The snow conditions aren't up to date (ie: groomed trails reported are anything but). $43.00 for a lift ticket is insane. It was a hassle to rent skis for my dad because there isn't a rental shop in the lower lot. Food is $10 for a burger, fries and a drink. Ski patrol is useless - I was just sitting waiting for friends, and they ask if I'm OK - but if I beat the living crap outta me, and I can't breathe - no one's there. They need to improve major before the 2002 Games.

| | Reviewed by: Cactus Jack, Advanced, from Santa Fe, New Mexico Summary: I was recently in Utah and happened to ski Snowbasin mainly because of the Olympic-hype that the resort has been getting and I, must say, that I really wasn't that impressed with it. First of all, the snow conditions were so bad that skiing off of a marked trail was actually pretty painful. Secondly, I really didn't care for the overall layout-especially the Strawberry bowl gondola which was the only way out of that side of the mountain, which seemed to end rather abruptly. Thirdly, nothing there was finished, the resort's website touts new lifts, new lodges, etc.-but neglects to inform you that a lot of this stuff is still under construction. Fourthly, I didn't think the downhill course was all that great-the one at Beaver Creek, Colorado, was much better in my opinion. Finally, what little food that was available was over-priced and pretty bad. In summation, I really don't hate Snowbasin, in fact, this review would probably be more flattering if the snow conditions had been better the day I had skied there. On the other hand, I found $43.00 lift ticket to be a pretty good deal and I hope that the Olympics don't change it into another over-priced yuppie, tourist trap-but that is probably inevitable.

| | Reviewed by: Robert Johnson, Advanced, from Beaverton, Oregon, USA Summary: On a good powder day the skiing is awesome. The strawberry area is great for non-experts to experience long powder runs.
The lifts aren't quite as good as Mt Bachelor but are very good. The improvements to the overall facilities for the Olympics will be welcome.

| | Reviewed by: Jeff H., Advanced, from Eden, UT. Summary: Its my favorite resort they dont get much better than this you can ski all season long without hitting the same trail twice. they have the deap pow' and they have a lot of natural jumps. some awsome cliffs that are totally easy to get to like Boss Hog rock on the Strawberry travers they have the best lifts in utah, and i think the best terrain there is a reson they are having the 2002 winter Olympics here its because this place is sweet, its got everything.
