Reviewed by: yitmoore, Snowboarder

Price Paid: $65.00

Summary:
Red Mountain is tough to beat. I just did the season there for 2009 and you can not get bored on that mountain. 360 of pure adrenaline. Advanced terrain is everywhere. Ledge drops, rock hucking, tree jibbing, Tree riding is the best there is. You could find powder days after dumps by running through the trees. And the place really only picks up a crowd on occasional weekends (and they usually don't know where to go anyways). When that happens just hit the backcountry stuff - which is easy to hike even in boots on most days. Only drawback is the old style lifts.

Customer Service:
The people are great. Lifties smiling and asking you how the runs are. Paradise Cafe makes some great food at unbelievably reasonable prices. Go in Rossland to Izzies for some amazing gourmet action. Rafters bar is great after a long day and often has live music on the weekends. Also, the supermarket (Ferrero) in Rossland is pretty upscale with what they offer - some amazing Sockeye Salmon gets in there.

Summary:
As you can see, from my current home location, the long trip to Red is well worth the miles it takes to get there. Any one who enjoys the challenge of Taos, Jackson Hole, Squaw, or Whistler/Blackcombe should make a point to check out Red Mtn. On the flip side, my wife is a solid beginner and she absolutely loves skiing here. The value is incredible. The daylodge has good food and ale. The Rock Cut, on the road to the Mtn. has good low-priced food in large amounts. There are several excellent restaurants in the sleepy town of Rossland and many more in the nearby town of Trail. 30 minutes north of the border, easy to drive to from the airport in Spokane, WA. Lodging is inexpensive. Incredible access to backcountry skiing/boarding. If you are looking for hopping apre-ski or nightlife you will not find it here-this place is a haven for those who like a hard-core, no-frills challenge. Virtually no lift-lines either.

Price Paid: $0.00

Summary:
I have skied the steepest areas in N. America - Utah, Jackson, Taos, C.Butte, Squaw, and, quite frankly, Red is simply the best expert terrain in N. America. There is none better. There is something at Red that will scare you no matter how great of a skier/boarder you are. If you can't find it, you simply haven't found the first and second "Coolers" yet. Ask a local, and they will dubiously point you in that direction. Otherwise, there are steep cliffs, incredibly steep chutes, ice falls, etc. for your skiing pleasure.

Summary:
Good snow, great steep trees, tree-skier's paradise, not many people. Still a retro area.
