Summary:
Sugar Bowl has it all for the family and the solo adventurer, from expert to beginner, and it is the closest ski/snowboard resort to the Bay Area. I fully recommend it over some of the other larger ski resorts, not only for price, but for entertainment as well. You can't beat it!

Half price Wednesdays, early departure coupons, and great beginner lesson/rental packages, make Sugar Bowl one of the best values around.

Sugar Bowl really has a great set of runs of all lengths, and even a killer boarding park, full of large and small jumps. Everything from the bunny slopes to the black diamonds are excellent runs that are never too crowded. You can easily traverse from one side of the mountain to the other, and only need to get on 2-3 lifts. Most snowboarders stay on 1-2 runs, where they have a good set of hits and great places for carving, so the skiers aren't too annoyed. The chairs are very consistent with good speed and rarely stop. It could use another high speed quad chair, but with short lift lines, it more than makes up for it. There are plenty of chairs that will get you to the top for the fresh powder.

Also a great place for the beginner. We recently went up there with a beginner snowboarder, and the lesson was a great 2 hours, with a fun instructor. A short line for rentals and a good solid bunny run, it couldn't have been better.

With such a large mountain that gets great snow coverage, Sugar Bowl really is one of the best resorts in the Sierras.

Summary:
It's the best place I've been so far. Most of the trails are nice and wide, so you don't really have to worry about people getting in your way.
And the day to go is Wednesday, because it's 2 for 1. What can be better? But if you can't hit it up on Wednesday, hit up a McDonalds on the way and get a $5.00 off coupon.
