| | Reviewed by: brynd, Double Diamond Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: I have been skiing at a high level for more than 35 years. I have skied at many of the top resorts in the West. I've skied Jackson Hole, Sun Valley, Alta, Snowbird, Park City, Squaw Valley, etc. I ank Bear Valley as one of my favorite places to go. Why? Because Bear valley is close to home, only 2.75 hours. It's cheap and most important, It has a great family/friendly atmosphere. The management and marketing people have got it! How many resorts have you been to have Santa Claus with torchlight parade and fireworks at Christmas? Raggae and Brewfests from local talent and breweries. How many resorts have free ladies day skiing - oops ALL SKI FREE. and let's not forget the Bud Light GS races with Kyle Rassmussen setting the pace - and the the raffle! What a kick.
Though the mountian is smaller than other big name resorts. the quality of the runs is equal to them all. It's best to explore Bear Valley with someone who's knows the back country runs. Hike a little and get paid BIG with solo tracks down feather-light powder between the trees, rocks or open glades. I have had some of my best days ever at Bear. Don't get me wrong, Squaw Valley is my #1 Mountain but the "turkey" factor at Tahoe is just crazy.
I have a skiing family now and with all factors considered, Bear Valley is hard to beat. Great snow (I've seen them close for the season with 22 ft of snow on the ground.) Great Runs( go off-track) and great people (those marketing guys & girls.

| | Reviewed by: Derrick , Advanced, from Atlanta, Georgia Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: It's a great resort, the runs are long and some can be challenging at beginners or intermediates. The prices is fairly competitive with all the resorts in Cali. Yes, they don't have free check-in's but anyone would know not to leave their stuff unattended. Sorry to hear what happened to this dude name Teri, but man, he is an idiot. Notice he's a double diamond boarder too!!! So he should have known better than leaving his stuff unattended. It's your own fault dude so you shouldn't blame it on the slopes.

| | Reviewed by: pjgwin, Double Diamond, from Bear Valley, CA Price Paid: $0.00 Summary: Bear is one of the greatest resorts I have ever been to. The lifts may be a little on the slow side, but when the snow is good (and it so often is, especially if you don't mind a little hike here and there) there is no better terrain. The terrain parks need some work, but they are getting better every year. And Teri, you are an idiot. Bear may not have a free board check, but there are $1 lockers EVERYWHERE. Did you not think your board was worth a buck? It's funny how valuable it is now that you think someone else is at fault. Sack-up and take responsibilty for your dumb-ass. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say, never leave your board alone ANYWHERE. It wasn't Bears' fault.
