Summary: The only ski area where you can sit in the sun and enjoy a view of the lake along with your lunch, and then proceed to take a photo of yourself with your ski tip hanging in mid-air with nothing but the water of Lake Tahoe as a background.
You can take this photo on top of that narrow winding road that takes you back down to the base area. Just stand close to the ridge, and point your tips a little over the edge. It's not as scary as it sounds. Even if your skis run away with you straight down, it's only a black trail, not a cliff.
Homewood is only abt. 6 miles south of Tahoe City, on the west side of the lake, and its slopes rise straight up from the lake, not from inside some side valley (as most other Tahoe ski areas do).
Go to Homewood on a sunny day, Don't forget your camera. You will regret it if you leave the camera behind. The views are simply stunning.
Beginners will have a relatively limited area right in the front, by the day lodge. But with some guidance, most should be able to handle the ridge run immediately above it, the one passing by the great photo-op and ending in that narrow, winding road.
Intermediates will have lots of options. Advanced skiers and boarders even more, including moguls and powder (on the right day).
Since Homewood is not so well known, it is seldom crowded.
Homewood may be somewhat smaller than the more famous Lake Tahoe areas, but it should definitely not be missed on a clear day if you spend more than 2 or 3 days at Tahoe.

Summary: I have been here once. Lift tickets are very good price. It has a great view from the top. It is relatively unknown in the area. But that is a good thing, since it is not crowded. But I wouldn't recommand this place for beginners. I had difficult time there as a beginner snowboarder. But once you can manage the blue and black stuff, it is a pretty good place. Snow can be inconsistent from time to time. Friendly staff. Part of the trail can get icey. But overall, it is a good place. Everyone should try it once at least.

Summary: Shhhh. Don't tell anyone about this place. Keep the secret within your riding buddies ONLY. After you have been here you will feel an insatiable urge to spread the word, DONT! Do not tell your co-workers, your classmates, or the stranger you met at other chairlifts. People will be coming in flocks if they know how nice and cheap this place is. Now that you have found out, it's YOUR responsibility to HELP maintain its low profile!
